My initial thoughts on style

Style is one of those “magic boxes” I spoke about where I want to create the box (make it a priority) and then let it happen – set the intention and then let the energy flow through me.

For some reason, though, as I write this, I realize that style has been elusive for me to let it be magical – I’ve had so many magical social experiences and probably in other areas like pool, but for some reason, I’m realizing now that I am struggling to lighten my grasp on style – until now, I’ve had a strong grip on it.

A quote today really helped me, from Rick Rubin – he says, “”When you believe the work before you is the single piece that will forever define you, it’s difficult to let it go. The urge for perfection is overwhelming. It’s too much.” (Rick Rubin, The Creative Act)  and later says, “”Our life’s work is far greater than any individual container.” (Rick Rubin, The Creative Act)

I especially like how he said container, given my magical boxes frame.

I think his point relates strongly to the “everything being too meaningful,” dragon side in an image that Visa shares often.

Essentially, letting things happen seems to be a frame that works for me – maybe I tend to lean too much on the meaningful side so it helps me cool out. There we go – we want a piece of advice – know thyself.

Anyway, that’s what this blog is for.

So, Rick Rubin also says, “Oscar Wilde said that some things are too important to be taken seriously. Art is one of those things. Setting the bar low, especially to get started, frees you to play, explore, and test without attachment to results.” (Rick Rubin, The Creative Act) and, “The object isn’t to make art, it’s to be in that wonderful state which makes art inevitable. Robert Henri” (Rick Rubin, The Creative Act).

This is my goal – I look at life as an art generally; in fact, to even create the box layout takes a creative part of the brain. And we will concede to the laws of physics – they work for us as tools to create what we want. But there’s creativity within it – think about it – lifting – to even attribute any importance to it, understand its meaning to you, acknowledge it, and then identify its meaning within the context of your life and ultimately create a routine that supports this is not necessarily a scientific process – trying to do all of that with a pure science would probably make Einstein go mad. Instead, you feel it out and let the seeds grow – you do that in conjunction with science to create something fucking fun that bears fruit – that is the cool part.

Anyway, while I’m sure the details matter, let’s play a little bit.
